garden finds: a daffodil

8:16:00 PM

I did an inspecition a few weeks ago in search for bulbs, but was dissappointed as I didn't see any green bulb leaves peeking out of the ground. Aparently I can't tell the difference between grass weeds and daffodil leaves. This beautiful guy popped up this week and I'm so happy about it!

I've also noticed some tulips, haicinths and crocuses.

The people who lived here before us put grass in over a flower bed because the weeds were too hard to keep under control. With all the flower gardens I am weeding this week, I can see why! The surprise is that they laid the sod down over crocus and tulip bulbs, so we have little flowers poking up from our grass! I know I will  eventually dig them out but I might let them bloom? I don't know.

So last Thanksgiving, my dad made the best apple pie in the whole entire world. Rob has made 3 pies in the last week, and is making another at this very moment in attempts to repeat it. It's hard to say whether or not he has succeeded in matching as we haven't had ice cream paired with it and there is something about the spirit of Thanksgiving. I also think he knocks the sugar down quite a bit for me. He has made some very delicious pies. I am very lucky.

On a side note, I've heard that my great-grandmother made a pie for my great-grandfather on a daily basis. I like to imagine her in the kitchen working on a pie everyday, thinking of her husband. What a sweet thing for her to do! I'm sure he loved it too.

St. Patrick's Day

9:29:00 PM

We had quite a fun weekend with corned beef and cabbage, St. Patrick's Day snacks and a green lunch. We watched "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" and listened to Celtic music. Did I mention Rob made TWO apple pies? Not necessarily Irish, but still very delicious. Boy, am I lucky.

This week, I plan on making a major dent in the gardening and yard work area. We've found some wonderful plants here! Since we moved in the winter, we didn't see or know about a lot of the plants already here. We've been having a lot of little plant surprises. It's been fun discovering them. I plan on posting my little discoveries as I find them. :)

lest you think

that when I said "I'm back" it meant I'd be back to regular posting, I'll clarify: "I'm back" really meant that my brain was actually functioning.

My life is still quite busy, and I'm getting used to home-ownership. It just takes more time to do new things you know? I think it's the cleaning thing that gets to me. Not to mention the extremely long list of projects I can finally do. Too bad this list makes me want to hide away and read my gardening books.

Anyway, we have been doing creative things here and there. Here is Rosie's latest creative endeavor:

She had SO much fun.
